Mintage
Business strikes: 5,444,023
Proof strikes: 792
Varieties: One RPD. It is surprising that more varieties haven’t shown up for this fairly high mintage date.
101 RPD. Repunching shows inside the 3 (sketch). I have only seen the one specimen.
Scarcity: A slightly better date, saved in higher grades as second year of issue.
Rarity Ratings: G/VG R2; F/VF R2; EF/AU R2; MS R1. Proofs are common.
Ranking: Business strikes – 59th in mintage, 60th in certified population; 45th (tied) in MS63 PI and 13th in Gem PI. Proofs- 18th of 24 in mintage and 22nd in certified population.
Comments: Comes well struck with nice luster. As the second year of issue this coin was saved, but not to the extent of the 1892 issues. The 186 certified mint state coins, rank it 60th of 74, but represent just 0.0034% of the original mintage. In contrast, the 280 certified proofs are 35.35% of the mintage.
