MINTAGE: 682,500 (both date sizes).
PROOFS: 30+ (Breen).
VARIETIES: No. 101 - Shattered obverse. Die cracks from the rim to approximately 4:00 and 7:00 meet at the central obverse. Later die states also show a heavy die clash.
No. 102 – Repunched 7 showing below the 7 in the date.
No. 103 – Reported with a triple punched date.
SCARCITY: Common as a date and a variety.
Rarity Rating: G-VG R2-, F-VF R3-. XF-AU R3, MS R3+. Overall: Rl.
Rarity Rating combined: G-VG Rl. F-VF R2, XF-AU R3-, MS R3.
Total MS PCGS/NGC/ANACS = 170 (Ranking 101/116) both date sizes.
COMMENTS: Usually well struck although some examples may show weakness within the horizontal or vertical lines of the shield. Beware of first strikes offered as the more valuable proofs. The date measures 1.3mm high vs. 1.0mm for Small Date. Date has a flat topped 3 vs. a round topped 3 for the Small Date. Like the No Stars Small Date, this coin carries a high value as a type coin.
