Liberty Seated Dimes 1838 Small Stars

MINTAGE: Estimated at approximately 30,000

VARIETIES: None known.

SCARCITY: The Small Stars variety is scarce, but more available than its estimated mintage would suggest.

Rarity Rating: G-VG R2+, F-VF R3, XF-AU R4, MS R5. Overall: R2-.

Total MS PCGS/NGC/ANACS = 35 (Ranking tied for 64/1 16).

COMMENTS: Always with a die crack through the first six stars (at the left). On most examples this die crack also extends down through the rock and the digits 1, 8, and 3 of the date. All were struck from a doubled die reverse. Prominent die doubling will show at the O in ONE, D in DIME, the lower leaves at left, and the bow knot
