Virginia Beach, Virginia – David Lawrence Rare Coins (DLRC) recently offered Part 2 of the Carolina Creek Collection as the cornerstone of their 925th Weekly Internet Auction.
Active online bidding highlighted the evening as the sale closed between 8-11:30pm on Sunday, September 4th. Many of the highlights were coins that had not been on the market in over 20-30 years and brought record prices.
The Carolina Creek Collection was the lifelong pursuit of a collector who worked exclusively with DLRC since the early 1980s. The collection included complete or near-complete sets of uncirculated Flying Eagle/Indian Cents, Buffalo Nickels, Barbers (Dimes, Quarters and Halves), as well as a full set of Walking Liberty Half Dollars. Part 1 of the collection was offered previously with a final result of over $400,000, bringing the collection total to well over $1 million.
Jason Smith, Vice President of DLRC, summarized the final tallies from Part 2: “The results were more than what we expected, and we have been very pleased with the overall results of both parts of the collection! Buyers smell a fresh deal a mile away, and the Carolina Creek Collection offered an array of quality, scarce coins that rarely come to market. DLRC’s new fast, user-friendly web site has been crucial to the user experience during the high volume of traffic we had on the web site. Exceptional customer service has long been the staple of our collector-friendly business, and we were honored to work with our long-time customer’s family when it came time to part with his collection.” Smith continued, "The Carolina Creek Collection is the ideal example of David Lawrence providing a true coin collector with the most satisfying experience possible. He enjoyed decades of collecting, upgrading and perfecting his sets. Sadly, he passed on earlier this year but had instructed his family to sell his collection through us when the time came. We’ve done everything possible to ease them through the experience during this emotional time for them. We walked them through the process and helped to maximize their results in our auction. The family could not be happier with our results."
Devin Hipp, Senior Numismatist of David Lawrence added, “The Carolina Creek Collection was an impressive assemblage of nineteenth and twentieth century classic coinage. There were some truly monumental coins in these sales in terms of quality and rarity, and the Barber coinage in particular garnered strong results indicative of their conservative grading and buyer sentiment that these series have been undervalued for far too long. DLRC’s heritage in their promotion and education about the Barber coins was no doubt the inspiration in the assembling of this collection, and we look forward to working with the others that we have been carefully assembling for nearly forty years.”
President of DLRC John Brush emphasized that “Our innovative auctions with NO Buyer’s Fees, and free shipping on all orders, proved to be the ideal scenario for the selling of this collection. We were thrilled to get the chance to auction these ‘old friends’ again. Some we hadn’t seen for over 20 years. Others were recently acquired as recently as Gardner/Newman. It just goes to show that great service and great coins -- over the long term -- are a winning combination."
