Coins We Love: A Successful World's Fair!
We touched on the first days of the World’s Fair of Money last week and the later days continued the positive aura that carried the show. Overall, we had a record buying event and an uncommon number of sales in all price ranges. As I’ve been explaining to those who ask, the 5 figure coins are moving much faster than in the past year, at least when it comes to quality and eye appeal. Friday’s attendance was generally positive and coins continued to find new homes, while Saturday was a bit slower. That's not bad, however, as the slower day allowed for a methodical packing up of materials and some time to spend with the folks remaining on the bourse.
What was the big news at the show?
The ANA is always a great event that draws collectors of all types as well as coins that have been put away by collectors and dealers alike. That’s part of why it’s always one of our biggest events. Typical award events and several organizational meetings occurred around the show which occupied many of my breakfasts and dinners. But, overall the show was a rather quiet event this year. The biggest news centered around our table as we had the number 1 certified Barber Half Dollar Set ever put together on display. With a vast majority of the coins crossed over to CACG holders, we introduced the fact that our partner, D.L. Hansen is starting the process of crossing over coins to the new grading service. You can read more on this with the press release here. The first step in putting the best collection into the new holders was certainly a noteworthy event and we’re excited to be assisting in this monumental project. Along with these amazing coins, we also had highlights from our upcoming Red Carpet Rarities Auctions on display, where coins in the number two Barber Half condition census will be offered in the coming weeks.
The other big news was the re-emergence of a fan favorite from the ANA Show in 2011. CAC-Man, the most famous mascot in the coin business, was on the floor for a few days. He appeared on Thursday and Friday and was a bourse favorite. We hear that he might be making more appearances at future shows! The pop of color and excitement certainly added a lot of smiles onto the faces of attendees!
So what’s next?
We’ll be displaying another set from the D.L. Hansen Collection at the upcoming Great American Coin Show in Tampa, Florida in September. More will be coming out about this in the coming weeks as far as which sets we’ll have on display. This is a project that we’re excited to be a part of!
