Coins We Love: ANA National Coin Week

Coins We Love: ANA National Coin Week

This week, April 21st-27th, we celebrate National Coin Week. A week-long tradition established by the American Numismatic Association with the goal of “attracting the general public to our hobby and consequently increasing our membership.” This year is especially important as it marks the 100-year anniversary of the first observance of National Coin Week!

Each year we take this week to reflect on the evolution of numismatics and the role it has played in connecting collectors, enthusiasts, and the public. This year's event is titled “A Hobby for a Changing World - 100 Years and Counting.” With a focus on how the “state of collecting coins has reflected societal trends, collaboration among collectors, and shifting interests. The 100th-anniversary event will focus on how coinage and money have evolved and changed to embrace varying cultural values over time.”

If you haven’t yet, take a look at the ANA website, https://www.money.org/, it’s home to a wealth of information and resources. Under the “National Coin Week” tab you can read about this week’s events, watch live webinars and presentations, play online trivia, and learn more about the history of our hobby.

On a similar note, as we prepare for the Central States show in Schaumburg, IL next week, we want to encourage you to check out the NNP Symposium. This is a hybrid event so you can watch for free online or those of you attending CSNS can view the variety of numismatic presentations in person! Visit https://nnpsymposium.org/ for the event schedule and list of presenters and topics. And, while you’re there, stop by and say hi! DLRC will be at table 802 Wednesday-Friday buying, selling, and accepting consignments. If you have your eye on anything you want to see in person, send an email to coins@davidlawrence.com by Monday, April 29th and we’ll be sure to bring it.

Thanks for reading and browsing this week’s Coins We Love. We hope to see you at the show!

Numismatically Yours,

Andy Jeffrey
