Coins We Love: Bushels of Deals

Well, the week started rather ominously with a few IT issues and the internet being down in our office. For those of you who normally get your invoices immediately and pay them quickly, we apologize for the delay! We got things moving along by noon and thanks to our billing department cranking into high gear with a pizza and coffee delivery to fuel them, we made it through.

The rest of the week has been rather calm overall. Of course we’ve seen the packages coming in on a daily basis and this has been the fun part of the week. The variety has been intriguing and it’s keeping us on our toes. One of my favorite things that arrived this week was a National Bank Note from Galesburg, Illinois, a really small town in southern Illinois. It’s where my wife is from originally, so I bought the note to give to my father-in-law for his birthday. I’ve quit giving my wife coin gifts over the past few years (they didn’t get the reaction I was hoping for), but I knew that he’d have an appreciation for it.

The box of proof and mint sets that did arrive as well didn’t quite get the priority that they should have, but we’ll get to those as soon as possible. I find it disappointing that these really don’t carry the clout that they once did, but the overproduction of these has really pushed the value down, especially when you compare the costs of storage compared to the value of the coins.

Lastly, I was driving back from the Outer Banks of NC this weekend and came across this sign that made me chuckle. While I passed my favorite coin-related town name, Coinjock, NC, I passed this sign selling Brilliant Uncirculated Oysters! These things are bringing more than uncirculated Morgan Dollars, but I’m sure they were tasty…heck, maybe there was a pearl of wisdom in that story.

Yes, I know it meant bushel, but there’s nothing wrong with a little coin humor in the world!

We wish everyone a great week and I hope that you’ll find some of the highlights below intriguing and that you’ll enjoy this week’s Coins We Love!

Numismatically Yours,

John Brush
