Coins We Love: Busy Show Season
Schools have officially started back, the evenings aren’t as warm and humid, and things are slowly getting back to what seems like normal. Overall, the ANA Show and the incredibly busy summer of shows and events have finally ended and we’ve had a few days to catch our breath. However, the search for coins never seems to stop, so while we might not have the “BIG” events going on, we’re still moving constantly in search of numismatic treasures.
This week we sent Jack (our newest and youngest full-time numismatist) up to the Illinois State Show to visit his home turf and see what stones he can overturn. Next week he joins me (JB), Andy, and Julia at the Tampa Great American Coin Show, while John C visits a small show in western Virginia at Weyer’s Cave. You can’t say we’re not trying to do our best in looking for deals. If you’re in the Tampa area and are stopping by the show, let us know! We’d love to meet up with you or grab a coffee if it fits into your schedule. After Tampa we FINALLY get a break from big events, with the Virginia Numismatic Association show sprinkled in late September, but with the next big event occurring in November with the Whitman Baltimore show. I’m sure there will be travels in between these events that pop up on us, but for now, my wife will be glad to have me home and working around the house for a few evenings.
While the shows take a special amount of time and energy to prepare and conquer, we’ve had a number of collections walk into the door as well. Heck, it’s made me think about opening a more official coin shop in the office (but Jason still won’t let me!). But, you’ll see some remnants of a Morgan Dollar bag deal that has come in, some really interesting and wide in-variety raw collections that have ventured their way to CACG and PCGS and we have some other projects that we hope to push along in the near future with some cheaper entry-level pieces. While the additional shipping charges aren’t something we’re fond of, the ability to widen our selection of lower-value coins has been a bright spot. So, we’ll be looking to widen our selections as we can but continue to offer the support, service, and quality that you expect from DLRC.
Yes, the seasons are busy, but we’re still thankful that we’re literally playing with coins all day. In Tampa we’ll be displaying, along with CACG, the D.L. Hansen Barber Half Collection, highlights from the 3 Cent Silver Collection, and some of the fabled $20 Liberty Double Eagles. This week I had the privilege to go through each of the coins once again and I can’t tell you what a treat it is to see these in hand. The quality of each individual coin that makes up the set is overwhelming. I hope that you can see what we mean at the Tampa show next week! Please stop by, or check out our social media links as we’ll be sharing some of these highlights as the week approaches.
As for now, we hope that you enjoy some of these amazing pieces that we’ve hand-selected this week. Thanks so much for partnering with us at DLRC!
Numismatically Yours,
