As we enter the hectic Holiday Season, we would like to take time to say “Thank You” to all our CWL readers and customers everywhere. Why we love it: This Indian Cent Issue is a scarce date in all grades but even rarer in gem condition with red color. Tied with seven other examples of the date as the finest graded. This lovely copper peach tinted piece is super high-end and eye appealing for the grade.
Value: The PCGS Price Guide and CPG value are set respectively at $18,000 and $16,900. Our starting bid in this week’s auction beats out both price guides and leaves potential bidders with plenty of room. It is set two thousand under CPG and three thousand under PCGS at just $15,000.
Why we love it: The 1875 Indian Princess $3 is a true rarity in a series that is nearly impossible to collect. No circulation strikes of this date were produced, making it a proof only issue with a microscopic mintage of just 20 coins. This gorgeous near-gem features smooth orange-gold cameo surfaces with a hint of rose that give this piece lovely eye appeal. An underrated numismatic treasure that belongs in the home of a true collector.
Value: This lovely Indian Princess $3 displays beautifully colored cameo surfaces and incredible rarity including coming from a mintage as minuscule as 20. These qualities along with its prestige in not just the series but across all of numismatics make it incomparable to any price guide. It is available for purchase now at an excellent value of just $205,500 via Make Offer.
Why we love it: One of our favorite key date issues from the early 20th Century, this is a grade that is scarcely seen for the variety. This piece displays lightly worn, original surfaces with faint, wholesome toning throughout the coin. For its grade, this coin has surprisingly nice luster with well-struck surfaces and premium eye appeal. A perfect AU example with the toning, luster and incredibly strong detail in the devices.
Value: The PCGS Price Guide has this coin valued at $13,500. Our example of this scarce overdate Buffalo Nickel is available in this week’s auction at a starting bid of $11,000. That is a generous discount of $2,500 off the price guide even with CAC approval.
Why we love it: The finest graded for the date by NGC, this star-designated superb gem is of the utmost quality and eye appeal. Beautiful blue and amber tints fall into a pleasant golden center with an even more attractive reverse. This piece is amazing for the quality with razor-sharp devices.
Value: The PCGS Price Guide has this coin valued at $9,000. Our stunning ultra-gem example of this Barber Quarter is available in this week’s auction at a starting bid of $8,250. That is a solid discount of $750 off the price guide even with its coveted NGC Star.
Why we love it: This scarce Charlotte Mint Liberty Head Quarter Eagle displays flashy, lustrous surfaces and ideal yellow-gold coloring. The fantastic eye appeal and limited blemishes of this coin are a nice surprise given the assigned grade. This coin comes from a low original mintage of only 63,591 coins struck, in which there are only five examples graded finer by PCGS.
Value: The PCGS Price Guide and CPG value are set respectively at $15,000 and $16,600. Our starting bid in this week’s auction beats out both price guides and leaves potential bidders with plenty of room at just $14,250.
Why we love it: Scarce and popular New Orleans Mint issue Liberty Gold Eagle from the D.L. Hansen Collection. From a lower original mintage of just 108,950 coins in which only 10 other examples are graded finer by PCGS. Our piece is wonderfully original with caramel-gold patina, soft mint luster, and a sharp strike.
Value: The PCGS Price Guide and CPG value on this coin are exactly in line with each other at $7,500. This should bring potential bidders great assurance on the accuracy of those numbers. The best price via Make Offer is set fairly at that same $7,500 even with its CAC approval.
Why we love it: A rare date Franklin Half Dollar when it comes with Full Bell Lines in gem grades. Booming with luster, this gorgeous Franklin Half is bested by only a single coin that is graded by PCGS. With beautiful frosty surfaces and stunning overall eye appeal, this piece is as nice as they come.
Value: The PCGS Price Guide is set at $20,000 for this amazing high-grade Full Bell Lines rarity. The starting bid in this week’s auction is set low at just $1,750 leaving bidders with plenty of room to acquire this registry quality gem Franklin Half Dollar at an excellent value.
Why we love it: Fresh to the market, this piece is from an earlier strike for the date as can be determined from the light die polish lines and the two noticeable lint marks. Lovely peripheral golden tints with impressive luster, this coin is destined for the finest of Bust Dollar collections.
Value: The most recent sale of this date and PCGS grade combination with CAC approval came in September of this year through auction. That sale brought $19,975. With that said, we have decided to offer a starting bid of just $19,000 in this week’s auction.
Why we love it: Beautiful, silver-white prooflike surfaces flash and contrast brilliantly against boldly struck devices. David Lawrence referred to this issue as a Philippine Hoard date. Most of the 1899-O and 1900-O dimes were sent to the Philippines for circulation which renders remaining examples quite scarce in high grade.
Value: The PCGS Price Guide has this coin valued at $6,000 in MS66 but does not factor in any premium for the PL designation. With that said our best price via Make Offer is set quite low at just $5,700 for this gorgeous O-Mint Barber Dime despite its designated proof-like surfaces.
Why we love it: Scarce first year of issue Lincoln cent that is almost as scarce as the more famous 'S-VDB' in full red. Gorgeous golden surfaces with light hints of orange, this coin is the finest available for the date and grade. The coloring, luster and pristine overall surfaces give this piece unique, pretty eye appeal.
Value: The PCGS Price Guide and CPG value are set respectively at $16,000 and $13,300. Our starting bid in this week’s auction beats out both price guides and leaves potential bidders with plenty of room. It is set two thousand under CPG and five thousand under PCGS at just $11,000.
Why we love it: A scarce and desirable Bust type coin. This wholesome VF example displays attractive gray-brown toning with light even wear across the coin making it a fair representation of the grade. This First Year Draped Bust Dollar comes from a low mintage of just 42,738 coins originally struck.
Value: The PCGS Price Guide and CPG value on this coin are quite in line with each other at respective amounts of $5,000 and $5,520. This extreme closeness in estimates should bring potential bidders great assurance on the accuracy of those numbers. Our best price via Make Offer is set reasonably at just $4,600.
Why we love it: An attractively wholesome example of this much better date Indian Cent that will not break the bank. This pretty choice VF has original chocolate brown coloring and relatively light wear especially on the reverse, which makes this piece an accurate example of the grade.
Value: The CPG Value comes in at $390 with the PCGS Price Guide right in the same ballpark of $400 for this scarcer Indian Cent. With a best price via Make Offer of $300, this is a perfect opportunity to acquire a great coin at an even better value being around $100 below both price guides.
Why we love it: A popular and desirable Key Date Barber Quarter from the San Francisco Mint that is famously known as being part of the “Big 3” along with the 1901-S and 1913-S. This fully original VG example provides a great method for acquiring this scarce date for relatively affordable price. This Barber Quarter comes from a low, original mintage of just 188,039 coins struck.
Value: Valued at $1,500 by the PCGS Price Guide, this famous key date Barber Quarter is available for $1,300 via Make Offer and is ready to be added to any numismatic collection in this price range.
Why we love it: A great type coin for the famously desirable Capped Bust design. This choice AU example is toned naturally across these lustrous surfaces that scream originality. The surface quality and detail are in line with what is expected from this grade. Light, even wear with no super detracting blemishes and crisp detail.
Value: Our best price via our Make Offer function on the DLRC website is set at $450. The PCGS Price Guide has this Capped Bust type coin valued at $500 leaving a potential buyer with a $50 discount.
Why we love it: This popular and scarce California Fractional Gold issue features frosty devices and high-quality fields with pretty, original color. This Territorial piece’s unique look, lack of noticeable marks and solid detailing in the devices give a nice, expected eye appeal for the issue. Used as currency by the many people who traveled the road to the California Gold Rush, these coins are popular amongst collectors and historians alike.
Value: The PCGS Price Guide has this coin valued at $550. It is available for purchase at the reasonable price of just $525 via Make Offer. That is $25 below the PCGS Price Guide value for this scarce and desirable California Fractional Gold Issue.
