Coins We Love: Fall Q&A Session
We often get asked a ton of questions throughout the year and occasionally we’ll try to stop and answer them along the way. So, this week’s CWL is a Q&A from questions gathered throughout the year!
Q: Why don’t you attend shows on Saturday?
A: My wife won’t let me! No, seriously. We attend the FUN, ANA WFOM, and Tidewater Coin Shows on Saturdays each year. Two of those shows are the largest events, and they require attendance through Saturday to keep the table location. If it were purely a financial decision, we wouldn’t attend the shows on Saturdays at all because the attendance is always weaker and trading becomes sparse. However, we don’t mind the sacrifice twice a year. Though we generally have a rule that we want our staff to be home with their families on the weekends, not in a strange hotel eating DoorDash.
Q: A lot of folks may wonder, “What does a coin dealer do when they aren’t at a coin show?”
A: We LOVE coin shows. They allow us to meet old friends, buy coins, make new friends, and gives us the opportunity to see what others are doing in the industry. However, our time in the office is far more valuable than at a show, as we have many more collections and deals that come to us there than we do at an individual coin show. Our website is the lifeblood of what we do, so getting coins ready to list there and moving collections along is a priority. So, shows are exhausting and necessary, but the office is actually busier for the most part.
Q: If I’m going to attend one coin show this year, which one is it?
A: I’ll always say the ANA World’s Fair of Money if it’s in a city other than Rosemont, IL. If it’s in Rosemont, go to the FUN Show in January instead. The Rosemont shows don’t attract the worldwide audience of other mints, etc., so the FUN is larger and better in those cases, in my opinion. And, if you’re not going to a show to add to your collection, but to see what collecting is like in other parts of the world, try the Berlin Money Fair in February. The weather leaves a lot to be desired, but the show is an amazing event and worth checking out!
Q: How’s the market?
A: The coin market has been incredibly active. I expected a slowdown in the 4th quarter, but with the activity that has been occurring at recent shows and in the office, I don’t think there’s time for a slowdown. The bullion markets have kind of helped, but it has essentially killed the premiums on classic generic gold coins. If I’m buying something right now, it’s MS66 Saints (nice ones). Those are so undervalued due to the gradeflation in recent years and due to the rise of gold prices, I think these are an excellent value. Maybe even MS67s if you can find them?
Q: What’s next for 2026?
A: We’ve gradually been making improvements along the way in 2025 to make DLRC, the company, better. We’re always looking to make improvements for collectors and website users every day, but we’ve made a large number of internal improvements as well. We’ll be improving our software even more in the coming year, of course, but our heart and soul is coins. And, with the partnership of Numismatic Rarities Exchange and some new prospects we have in the works, I think that we’re in for an even more exciting 2026!
