Coins We Love: Fresh Deals and Hansen Coins!

We’ve seen the dust settle a little bit in the post-tax-season world and what is typically considered a slower summer numismatic season, is in front of us. It’s not so much that way anymore as the internet has changed the collecting world to be a much steadier stream of business, even with the lack of coin shows during the summer months. So, the inevitable question is how do you source coins for the summer months? Well, you just keep doing the same things - reaching out to dealers, talking to customers, and occasionally visiting a friend in the business.

This week’s big deal happened simply because of a relationship we have with a shop in the south that gave us a call with a fresh GSA deal that walked in over the counter. Two days later, the coins are on our desks and we are getting them through the system. We also closed out a consignment for a collector with several hundred coins that we had been going back and forth with, and that’s on top of the multiple packages that come through the office every day. The coins aren’t coming to us in the quantities that they do from a show, but they certainly are “fresher” and they make things a lot more interesting.

Next week, you’ll hear about us making our rounds through the shops in Virginia, hitting the road (JB and Wes) to visit a customer and the PCGS Invitational Show in Las Vegas, and preparing to hit the road for the upcoming PAN Show in Pittsburgh. Sometimes we divide and conquer to find the next deal! That’s why we don’t slow down in the summer. The thrill of the hunt is still a thing at DLRC. While we’re looking for the occasional coin to fit into collections, we’re also looking for the deals and the consignments that are in every nook and cranny of America.

What else is happening? The next crossover package of D.L. Hansen coins has made its way to CACG this week. The most recent group consists of Morgan Dollars, later-date Washington Quarters, and a set of Roosevelt Dimes. In the picture below, you’ll see me separating out the number 1 set from the duplicates. We’ve done this on everything except for the moderns, so this undertaking was something we had put off for quite some time. While it wasn’t the most glamorous event, it was certainly a fun project that ended up being quite interesting! Thanks again for getting this far. If you want to join collectors (like the owner of The Old School Doily Collection we’re offering this evening) and consign your collection to one of our upcoming RCR or Sunday auction events, don’t hesitate to reach out. We’ll customize your auction experience with you to maximize your results. If it requires a visit to your neck of the woods, we’ll do our best to make it work!

Until Next Week!
