Coins We Love - June 8

This week at DLRC I was on vacation, well, in theory. When you have a job that you love and that is as fun as this one, you never really need or want a vacation. The annual week after school ends is our traditional week of vacation, so it’s been a nice break outside of the office. Next week I’ll send a picture of some numismatic tie-ins from the vacation. Of course, the office is still running (it actually seems to run better when I’m gone, maybe that’s a hint). New auctions are listing and many coins are both coming in and out. All in all, it’s great to be a part of a team that has worked together for so many years where things always run smoothly.

Numismatically, there’s not a lot to share, except for the highlights in this week’s auction and the fascinating Mutiny Bay Collection of Shipwreck Coins closing in next Sunday's auction. Click the banner below to view the highlights.

As for now, we’ll leave you with the following coins to enjoy and we hope that you find something of interest. Of course, if you have any questions regarding, buying, selling, or our auctions, don’t hesitate to email us at coins@davidlawrence.com or give us a call during our new extended office hours!

Sincerely,
John Brush and Your Friends at DLRC

1937-D 3 Legged 5c NGC MS65

Why we love it: The 3-Legged Variety is a scarce and very popular issue that is highly sought after by even non-Buffalo nickel collectors. This stunning gem features beautiful golden rim tints on the obverse with a light rainbow around the reverse rims. The strong underlying luster along with its well-struck, pristine surfaces makes for premium eye appeal. The fascinating part of this key date issue in this grade is that the missing leg features are exhibited much more clearly than on the lower grade pieces. It’s one of our favorite key dates in any series and this piece is in no way a disappointment!

Value: The CPG lists this piece at $30,700 with the PCGS Price Guide at $29,500. It is available in this week’s auction with the reserve set at the very fair and surprisingly low amount of just $20,500.
