First of all, I want to get this out there: We’re Sorry. It hasn’t been a model week for DLRC, but some weeks are better than others! We’ve had a few of our point-people out sick and just a bit more chaos than we’re used to having. Most of the folks here at DLRC have been here for over a decade, so we get used to how smoothly things typically run. We think that this is one reason customers tend to come back to us. This week, it wasn’t up to the level of consistency that we prefer, but you know what, we survived. Maybe you didn’t see that, maybe it wasn’t noticed by anyone. However, it felt that way for us, so I wanted to put it out in the open and say that we'll get it better next time!
In other news at DLRC, we have several collections upcoming that have surprised us! We have a small grouping of Pioneer Gold Coins (Territorial Gold) coming up in the auction starting next week, a Morgan Dollar Collection coming up in a few weeks, and an interesting modern Silver Eagle collection as well. While we didn’t expect any of these in the past 2-3 weeks, things tend to just fall into place sometimes.
Lastly, some of you were expecting us to be in New Orleans next week for the PCGS Invitational Show. Unfortunately, we are probably not going to be making it out there for any length of time, so we’ll have to hope for better timing next year. We’ll miss the Cajun cooking, but sometimes you must keep your house in order. Why we love it: A popular and scarce variety in the Lincoln Cent Series. This example displays such sharp detail and so little visible wear that it almost looks like it could pass as Mint State. The obverse features a solid chocolate brown, and the reverse displays pretty, bright-colored streaks with some underlying luster.
Value: The PCGS Price Guide has this coin valued at $6,500. CAC’d examples above AU50 are difficult to come by, and we think that this piece is nicer than most. A PCGS example recently sold for $8,400 in auction, but this piece is available for purchase at the reasonable price of just $6,000 via Make Offer!
Why we love it: This piece is a sought after and quite scarce overdate variety in the Mercury Dime series that is especially desirable and hard to come by in gem condition. This remarkably original example features attractive toning and blazing luster that shines through with no detracting blemishes and simply stunning eye appeal. This rare overdate Mercury Dime Issue is tied for the finest known in existence graded by PCGS without full bands. While it’s not the hole-filler than many of us searched for as kids, it’s certainly a treasure and deserves to find a home in a high-end Mercury Dime collection!
Value: The PCGS Price Guide has this coin valued at $25,000. It is available in this week’s auction with a reserve of just $23,000. This gorgeous gem with CAC approval that is tied for finest known is sure to find a new home at the end of our auction this Sunday!
Why we love it: A scarcer gem type coin within the Liberty Seated Quarter series that features lovely eye appeal. This captivating eye appeal comes from its beautiful underlying luster combined with its light rose-colored toning that covers the entire coin. This slightly better date gem Liberty Seated Quarter issue has only one other example in existence graded finer by PCGS.
Value: The PCGS Price Guide has this coin valued at $9,000; however, it is available in this week’s auction with the reserve of $7,000. With only one graded finer in existence and reserved at $2,000 below PCGS, this CAC’d piece is sure to go quickly in this week’s auction!
Why we love it: An underrated key date in the proof Washington Quarter series in which it is the scarcest of all the denominations in the 1936 proof set. This ultra-gem example displays subtly toned, immaculate surfaces that make for high-quality eye appeal. This key proof Washington Quarter issue comes from an incredibly low mintage of just 3,837 coins struck in which it is tied for the finest known in existence graded by PCGS.
Value: The CPG rests at $6,240 with the PCGS Price Guide of $8,650. Tied for the finest known, this piece sells for a modest premium, but is available for less than all of the recent auction prices of at least $6,000. Available via Make Offer for just $5,850, this seems like a fantastic value for this flashy ultra-gem example of this scarcer date proof Washington Quarter!
Why we love it: A rare Liberty Quarter Eagle Issue from the incredibly popular Dahlonega Mint. This example displays lustrous surfaces that display completely original bright yellow coloring with surprisingly few blemishes for the assigned grade as shown by its CAC approval. This scarce Quarter Eagle issue comes from a low mintage of just 19,303 coins struck in which only four are graded finer by PCGS.
Value: The PCGS Price Guide has this coin valued accurately at $11,500 and is available in this week’s auction with the reserve set at the same amount. This is a great opportunity to own one of the five best examples graded by PCGS!
Why we love it: A famous, rare issue that is highly desired by all collectors of U.S. coinage. This particular example displays pristine gem surfaces that are covered in strong luster with a gorgeous rainbow hue of toning on the reverse making for fantastic eye appeal. This key date Lincoln Cent comes from a moderately low mintage for the issue of just 484,000 coins struck.
Value: The PCGS Price Guide reflects a value of $10,000 with the CPG at $10,500. It is available in this week’s auction with the reserve set at the low and reasonable amount of just $8,500. That is an entire $1,500 below the PCGS Price Guide value for this gem example of this famous key date in the Lincoln Cent series!
Why we love it: A lovely near-gem example of this scarce, early Walker Issue from the San Francisco Mint. The coin displays incredible luster and gem-like eye appeal from its light rose-gold toning with subtle lavender highlights.
Value: The PCGS Price Guide has this coin valued at $12,000 with the CPG at $11,900. It is available for purchase at the reasonable price of just $11,500 via Make Offer. As one of the scarcest dates in a long-popular series, this seems like a nice deal for a seldom-seen CAC-stickered piece.
Why we love it: An attractive, lustrous example of this popular key date Walker from the Denver Mint. It displays mostly white surfaces with a subtle golden tint and surprisingly few blemishes that make this coin seem truly under-graded. This key date Walking Liberty Half Dollar issue comes from the lowest mintage in the entire series with just 208,000 coins struck.
Value: The CPG reflects a value of $16,300 for a CAC-approved piece. This high-end, CAC approved example is available for the reasonable price of $14,750 via Make Offer. As a Key Date in this series, the 1921-D is slightly more plentiful than the 1921-S, but is still one of the key dates in the series.
Why we love it: An underrated date within the Saint Gaudens series, which deserves much greater attention given its extreme rarity. This near-gem example of this scarce issue displays stunning luster and gorgeous coloring. This key date Saint Gaudens Double Eagle issue features under a thousand surviving examples from its nearly 3-million-coin mintage in which PCGS graded only seven finer than this example offered here.
Value: The PCGS Price Guide reflects a value of $22,500. It is available for purchase at the lower and reasonable price of just $20,000 via Make Offer. That is $2,500 below the PCGS Price Guide value for this gorgeous near-gem example of this scarce date D-Mint Saint!
Why we love it: This intriguing collector lot of ten Lincoln Cents features coins with blazing red lustrous surfaces. The eye appeal of this impressive set is stunning across the board as all the coins have truly pristine devices and fields that represent the assigned grade perfectly.
Value: This affordable lot of bright red gem Lincolns is priced at $150 but can be acquired for just $140 via Make an Offer. That gets you each coin at only $14 each in which the PCGS Price Guide Value in the next higher grade is at $25 if you are lucky enough to get any potential upgrades.
Why we love it: An affordable and intriguing lot of five nearly perfect gem Buffalo Nickel type coins. All the coins display ideal luster, blemish-free surfaces and well-struck devices that feature sharp, clear detail giving them premium eye appeal. This is a fantastic opportunity to acquire these gorgeous final year of issue Buffalo Nickels for a reasonable price.
