Coins We Love: Numismatic Travel Journal

While everyone in the world of coins is writing about the meteoric price gains of gold and silver, we’re happy to give you a break from the metallic roller coaster-like news and bring you an alternative travel journal for numismatic service this week!

Last week, I spent a few days visiting our partners in Salt Lake City and working with the fabulous collection. It was another amazing opportunity to view some of the most special rarities in the hobby, and I was like a kid in a candy shop. There was certainly work involved in organizing the coins, but when that’s work, I don’t mind working a 24-hour shift! A few meetings were thrown into the mix to help us align our goals for the next few months. Overall, the time together was priceless, and the coin viewing was beyond remarkable!

After a few days there, I had to make a visit to Colorado Springs for the ANA Board of Governors onboarding session for a few days. This event occurs for a few days after each election and allows us to set our agenda for the next two years. This event was one of the more intense discussion-based meetings I’ve been through in a long time. There were some great conversations and while we didn’t always agree, we walked out with the knowledge that we have the same overall goals, to serve the membership and the organization. The ANA is a wonderful organization that does a lot for the hobby, and it’s quite an honor to serve there. I hope that we’re able to make the right decisions over the next year, which will allow the organization to serve the next generation of collectors.

The crowning event to close out the week was an opportunity to visit a dealer/supplier friend of mine, Matt Trookman, and the final dinner, which allowed a few of us to celebrate the 97th birthday of Mr. Redbook, Ken Bressett. The week was a nonstop journey through meetings, rare coins, budget alignments, strategic planning, and the occasional workout in the gym, but it was fruitful and hopefully good for the long run.

All of this while everything in the office surged forward with excitement. This week has been a bit more normal, but normal seems to be extremely busy right now. JC and Jack find themselves at the PAN show outside of Pittsburgh for the next 2 days. The SCNA show next week will be attended by JC and Andy. And, on the West Coast, Jack, Wes, and I will be hitting up the PCGS Invitational show. Overall, we’re hitting as much as possible and searching for the coins that scream out “DLRC” to us! And we’re having a wonderful time doing it all.

Now we’ll leave you with two more bits of news:
