Coins We Love: Road Trip

JC and Jack had planned to drive to Durham, NC, on Monday to pick up a massive deal. But, due to illness, I was subbed in at the 11th hour. So, after our scheduled Monday morning meeting, JC and I hit the road to drive the 3.5 hours to finalize the deal — the drive was smooth and the area picturesque! We reached our destination and started the daunting task of checking off the contents of 12 double rows (some quick napkin math puts the estimated number of coins north of 700). An easy ask if they were all different dates and denominations, but the 175 1884-S and 162 1887-O Morgan Dollars—which had to be checked off via grade and Cert No.—quickly turned it into a nigh-Sisyphean effort totaling well over 4 hours. After negotiating the final price, we packed up and began our journey back around 5:30 pm. With only a protein bar each sustaining us so far throughout the day, we disburdened ourselves of our per diem at the McDonald's and drove headlong into traffic and an unplanned detour—courtesy of Apple Maps—finally arriving back at the office well after sundown. Road trips are always fun with J,C and this one went smoothly overall—the highlights for me were the 1916-D Merc Dime in MS65FB and being able to hold a 500-ounce silver bar (just for show, unfortunately)—and now our focus has been processing the coins and putting them in our weekly auctions!

You can look for these pieces as they continue to go live in the coming weeks! Additionally, we hope that you will take the time to glance at the incredible highlights listed below.
