Coins We Love: ☀ Summertime Selections ☀

We hope that you were able to take some time this past Memorial Day to honor those who have sacrificed so much for our country. I know that we get caught up in the hustle and bustle of the world around us, but in our little corner of Virginia, it’s really quite easy to be reminded of the military service so many folks have given. With branches of every American military service in our region, we all know multiple people who are serving or have family members who are serving or are retired. This past Monday was a time when we could honor those that gave the ultimate sacrifice for our country. So, from all of us at DLRC, thank you for giving of your friends or families to allow for the freedoms that we are so blessed to have.

On the coin front, John and I returned from New Orleans last week with a few boxes of new purchases and consignments. Overall the show was a positive one for us as we were able to greet some old friends and customers, buy a few new coins, and enjoy some amazing food. The city of New Orleans is certainly an interesting one and it’s nice to step out to a different locale and enjoy a little bit of local flavor and history. If coin shows could frequently visit cities like this, I think it could rejuvenate much of the traveling business. So, yes it was worthwhile and our friendly hosts, PCGS, put on another great event.

This week we have John on the road working on a collection that we hope to bring home, a couple of new auctions starting, and a plethora of new highlights filing through our offices. While the market isn’t as loud as it was a few months ago, we’re starting to see a lot of coins that were formerly in strong hands re-enter the market. Higher prices tend to draw these kinds of coins out of their previous collections and it is an exciting time to be buying and offering auction opportunities. The demand for rare coins is certainly there, but the good thing for collectors is that there are now a few more coins to choose from. So, we suspect that the rapid price increases will likely slow down a tad for the summer, but we’re excited to see where it continues to go for the rest of the year.

Next week is the Summer Baltimore Show. We typically tone down our attendance levels a bit for the summer shows as activity slows down…and while it feels like we were just in Baltimore a month ago (weren’t we???) our plan is to be in attendance on Thursday and Friday with a nice selection to choose from. Things could change as the week approaches depending on the activity in the office, but that is our tentative approach. If you’re planning on attending, please let us know if there’s anything you’d like us to bring that you see on our website. Our traveling stock is limited, but we’re happy to bring any items that you’d like to see if you notify us in advance.

As for now, we’ll leave you with a few highlights from this week. We hope that you enjoy the offerings below and know that if there’s anything we can help you with this week, please feel free to reach out!

Numismatically Yours,

John Brush
