Coins We Love: This Week Reminded Me Why I Love Numismatics!

This week John Fatigate and I have been in Utah working with our partner and the D.L. Hansen Collection. We’re in the final phase of crossing over the expensive highlights from the collection into CAC holders. To say it’s been an incredibly fascinating week would be putting it mildly. I’m reminded every time that I work with the collection what a special group of coins this is. To hold an 1804 $1, a 94-S 10c, an uncirculated (undergraded MS65) 93-S $1, a unique 1851 3CS (ex: Sperber!) and many other rarities in a single sitting is unheard of. And we get the pleasure of spending extra time with them. Honestly, I have to pinch myself. It was John F’s first time assisting with the collection and I think that I can speak for him that it was an amazing experience.

Unfortunately a lot of the work we do with the collection goes unmentioned and unnoticed because it’s to maintain and preserve the collection. And to improve it. But there will be some interesting news to come out in the next few weeks regarding some of the coins that were crossed over and we’ll be excited to share that information with the collecting community when it’s ready.

Another one of the highlights is just spending time with our partners in Utah. They go beyond just Dell Loy, but when you work with people you genuinely like and can learn from, it’s a treat. And when your partner has the enthusiasm of Dell Loy, you can’t help but want to write home about it. We were able to introduce several friends and business partners of Dell Loy to the collection this week and while I thoroughly enjoy giving the introduction and showing off some of the highlights, it’s even more fun when Dell Loy starts presenting different coins and aspects of the historical nature of the pieces. The passion of a true collector is infectious and exciting. And to see his eyes light up and to realize what he has built as a whole is special. In fact, it really just motivates me to share more of our knowledge and passion for collecting to the world. If we were able to just bottle the passion and excitement of collecting and share just a little bit of it to others it would make the numismatic community an even better place!

While the days are long, the coins are fun and the people are even more exciting. That being said, we’ll get to share some of the excitement of collecting next week when we get to the Whitman Baltimore Show. We’ll be attending Wednesday through Friday and we would absolutely love to see you there. As always, if you find any coins on our website that you’d like to see in-hand, please shoot us an email. We’ll have an assortment of coins with us and on display, but if you can let us know what you’d like to see specifically, we’ll do our best to bring it!  One small change this time around is that the powers that be have relocated us from our typical Baltimore location after 30+ years. So, you’ll have to lean a little further left as you enter to find us, but we’ll be there! And we’ll look forward to hopefully seeing you and sharing some of the excitement and passion we’ve experienced this week!

Numismatically Yours,
John Brush and Your Friends at DLRC
