Coins We Love: Weather Changes Plans

For those of you hoping to drop by to see us at the Summer FUN show, we’re sorry for the late notice, but Hurricane Elsa canceled our flights and we were unable to make it down there this week. We are as disappointed as anyone with the issue, especially after hearing that the storm didn’t really make it over to Orlando, but thus is the nature with travel. We did hear that a number of other larger dealers had the same experience, so at least we know we’re not alone in this. We’ll certainly miss catching up with you, but we hope to do so at the Winter FUN in January, if not at the ANA or another upcoming show. So, we’ll turn our thoughts and minds towards the ANA World’s Fair of Money in August.

I’ve personally had a lot of phone calls and inquiries about the recent announcement from NGC. Following on the tails of the sale of PCGS, the event at NGC was somewhat expected to happen eventually. However, it doesn’t erase the shock and surprise that the two largest coin grading companies are now owned by larger entities. The questions I’ve been receiving have largely been some form of “What does this mean for the hobby?”. Well, there have been a lot of different thoughts, but the short answer is  it’s just too soon to tell. It’s certainly interesting to discuss and to contemplate what this really can mean for the hobby. We hope the new ownership of each service can help spread the hobby to new territory and bringing in new collectors from other fields. A more collector-centric mentality would certainly be welcome. But, at the moment, there’s nothing to do but wait and see what unfolds.

As for this week, we hope that you enjoy a few more offerings from our auction ending on Sunday and some highlights plucked from our website for direct sale in this week’s CWL. Thanks again for reading and please feel free to reach out to us if there’s anything that you’d like to discuss!

Best,
John Brush
