Coins We Love: A New Face, Big Travels & an Important Shipping Update

The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly is a seemingly fitting description of the week at DLRC.

The Good: We welcomed Eli Kelso to the DLRC family on Monday. Eli is a wholesale buyer and seller extraordinaire. And while he’s only 18 years old, he shows an experience far beyond his years and a maturity of a seasoned numismatic veteran. I (JB) met Eli at Summer Seminar last year as he attended the class that I taught there and we continued to run into each other at Witter Coin University and then at many of the major shows (yes he had to work it around his high school schedule!). As we did business together for a year we got to know each other quite well. Eli worked for a smaller dealer in Northern Michigan, but he was destined for a larger outfit and we were more than excited when he accepted our job offer to move to Virginia Beach. He’ll be attending all of the major (and many regional) shows in the future on behalf of DLRC and if you’re in attendance, you’ll probably see him running around the bourse floor somewhere. And while many might see our growing army of young people roaming the bourse as a weakness, we’re excited to showcase the power of education and the bright future of the hobby.

The Ugly: The past week has been a bit of an around the US adventure for DLRC. I’ve flown through 7 states in a handful of days, Jack has driven up to the Northern Virginia area and just made a last-minute jaunt to Akron, Ohio to pick up a collection. All of this on top of preparing for the Summer FUN Show next week. One of these days I’ll get to spend more than a day back home and my dog will remember me. My wife is probably enjoying the break from the constant dinner table conversation around numismatics. On a personal note, I was able to complete my trek to every MLB baseball team’s home stadium with my youngest son Luke last week. It took me 46 years and 41 stadiums to complete the journey, but for those of you who enjoy chasing stadiums, let’s compare notes!

Of note: if you see anything on the DLRC website that you’d like to see in-hand, please don’t hesitate to let us know soon so we can pack it for the trip to Orlando next week!

The Bad: As many of you know, the USPS is raising the shipping rates once again in a week or so. Unfortunately with the increasing costs of shipping, insurance, and packaging, we have to add a few dollars to our shipping costs as well. As before, shipping is NOT going to be a profit center for DLRC. However, we have to recoup as much of the costs as we can to continue to provide the best values and variety possible, so please forgive our shipping adjustments that you’ll see take place next week. As before, it’s one flat fee per total invoice value. No per coin costs, handling fees, or other miscellaneous fees. It’s a transparent number for us at DLRC and we hope that you can understand the need for the adjustment.

Numismatically Yours,

John Brush
