Coins We Love: CSNS is NEXT WEEK!
The CSNS Annual Show has long been a staple in the coin show circuit. For many years, the show rotated major cities in the Midwest or “Central States” region, and from those events, I have many fond memories of cities that, generally, I've otherwise visited infrequently. St Louis, Cincinnati, Milwaukee, Indianapolis, Kansas City, Columbus (I’m not sure how that fits in this group!), and occasionally the Chicago area. Unfortunately, as is the nature of rotating coin conventions, the idea of staying in a single city is much more cost-effective, so for the last several years, it has settled in Schaumburg (it’s not Chicago), IL. Now, the hotel and convention center are probably the best on the major show circuit. They are new and nice. But I do miss the days of seeing different cities and opening up the organization for members in other parts of the region. Schaumburg is a wonderful wholesale/dealer location, but the attendance has lagged in recent years, so collectors apparently aren’t finding it as “ideal” for one reason or another.
The good news is, we are more prepared for a major coin event than we’ve felt in quite some time. The market is still red hot. For coins under $10,000, it might be the hottest market we’ve ever seen. They are flying out the door as soon as we list them these days (through auction, of course!). So, dealers are frothing at the mouth to sell coins and move product right now and are struggling to find replacement coins. All of these factors could lead to one of the most active (transactionally) CSNS shows we’ve seen in years. Of course, if there’s a lack of coins available, it could be a large group of dealers twiddling their thumbs. We shall see!
We’ll be attending the show REALLY early to get a leg up on the buying competition and hope to have some fruitful results. As far as seeing us at the show, we will be there in full force until the end of the day on Thursday. Jack will also be in attendance on Friday, so if you’re looking to drop off coins or have something to sell, let us know, and he’ll meet you at our table.
If you want to see a coin that we have listed on our website, please email us by Monday at coins@davidlawrence.com. We will have it with us at the show! We won’t be carrying a large number of coins with us for this event as our table space is limited, but if you let us know in advance, we’ll bring them for you to see!
Thanks again for checking out this week’s Coins We Love. We’d love to see you in Schaumburg, but if you’re not there, we’ll see you on the website!
Numismatically Yours,
John Brush and the CSNS Show Team
