Wow. What a week at the ANA Show!
Wow. What a week.
We’re at the ANA show in Pittsburgh this week and, as we’ve said over the last few months, the market is incredibly active. We’ve been here since Saturday afternoon and the activity has been near-overwhelming; we’ll have a more comprehensive report next week. As of Tuesday, we've lost track of the day of the week and we have to keep checking the calendar each morning we get to the bourse floor. It’s been a week full of activities, meetings, banquets, meetings, and…oh yeah…buying and selling coins. We’ve said this several times in the past two years, but we came to the show ready to buy and trade and we’ve already spent a record amount at the show and we still have a day and a half left…and how have sales been? Fantastic!
The attendance this year feels like a dramatic improvement over the event three years ago in the same convention center. The public isn’t just looking…they are buying coins for their collections. And if you take into account the wholesale trading, we’re clearly in one of the hottest markets we’ve seen…one veteran that saw the rise and fall of the markets in the '80s and '90s said that the current marketplace is similar, but even more active because of the introduction of technology to the world. The market’s foundation also seems to have more stability. So, where does that leave us? For now, it leaves us with a lot of activity to process, more coins to find, and a lot of excitement and hope for the future of the hobby and the market.
As stated above, we’ll report back with a full show recap next week once we've caught our breath. That’ll be a much longer message!
Numismatically Yours,
John Brush and Your Friends at DLRC
