Coins We Love: Selling Your Collection? We Can Come to You!
This week, Andy and Jack picked up a collection in the Midwest on Monday, with Jack then making his way to the Cincinnati show. With the Baltimore Show around the corner and with the projects ongoing in the office, I wasn’t able to make this trip. However, I received a call from the collector they were visiting around lunchtime (when they weren’t even close to finishing) and we had a conversation that I thought was worth mentioning as it made me very proud of the team we have at DLRC.
Setting the scene: Julia answered the phone in the office and said the collector was calling for me. I gave a face of “this can’t be good news…” but I answered and started to chat with the customer.
The collector (I’ll call him Bob), was explaining to me that we had done business for a long time and several other folks had reached out to him about his collection, but the situations just didn’t quite “feel right”. And while our deal was not close to being accepted, he had some feedback to share with me. So, he had been organizing his collection in preparation for the visit and while he had a large number of coins (around 1,000), he couldn’t find the two of the most expensive pieces in the collection. He had not slept for 3 days as he was so distraught and alarmed. Along came Jack and Andy. They were working quietly in the basement while Bob had to go to work for a few hours. He sent his wife by the house at lunchtime from her work to check on the guys and, lo and behold, Andy told her that he had found the two missing coins among the others in the collection. So, that’s when Bob picked up the phone and called me immediately.
I don’t recall the conversation completely, but he wanted to applaud me on having two young people that we trusted to send to buy collections that were of such upstanding character as Jack and Andy. As Bob explained “these young folks could have put those coins in their pocket and walked out and I would have never known…” He’s right of course, but I’m proud to say that I know it didn’t even cross either of their minds to do this. And that’s why they are such an asset to DLRC. And I think I can say the same for everyone that works here.
Thankfully, I got a call from Andy and Jack (about 8 hours later) that they had bought the collection and were going to be heading out. And I told them this story…it honestly goes to show how important it is to build a great team that is trustworthy and is looking out for the collector and the company. And I’m thankful for each and every one of these folks at DLRC. They are what makes the company!
In other news, we have some really awesome coins listed this week.
