Coins We Love: The Atlanta Review

So, what was the final overview of the Atlanta Show?
It was far better than expected! We ended up spending seven-figures on fresh, new material, picked up a couple of fantastic consignments—including a group of beautiful Silver Commemoratives—got to meet with several longstanding DLRC customers…and we sold far more than we expected. We actually only brought a single box of coins with us for sale, as we wanted to highlight quality over quantity, and the hit of the show was the Charlotte and Dahlonega gold. Unfortunately, it’s becoming more difficult (and less safe) to transport large numbers of coins with us to shows, so we’re aiming to bring what customers are requesting to see in-hand and a few highlights from our website to most of our future shows. Some events, like non-summer Baltimore, ANA, and FUN, will allow us to bring more, but that’s what the future show inventories will likely appear to be. The website is so active that it’s difficult to navigate multiple avenues at once, and as we’ve always said, it’s impossible to bring 4,000 coins to a show! So, let us know what you want to see!
Thursday and Friday were quite active for both retail and wholesale. The attendance was a little questionable—there was another show going on down the road about 90 miles—but the serious collectors in the area decided to show up. Next year’s event will be moving even further south to Savannah, Georgia. That’s not a city that I’ve explored much, but we've heard so many great things about the city that we’re very much looking forward to our visit.
As far as office happenings, coins continue to come in from all directions. This is a wonderful thing and we’re excited to be able to handle so many neat pieces…everything from group lots of modern issues to seven-figure coins are crossing the threshold of our offices and it makes every day a little different. We have a few weeks off before our next adventure up to the Baltimore show in late March, giving us an opportunity to catch up with our photography and processing of new items. However, if you’re thinking about consigning right now, don’t feel like you need to wait! As I discussed with a new consignor at the show, we prioritize consignments in our office, so if you get us coins on a Wednesday, we can often get them into the auction starting in 2 days — speed and efficiency are important to us and there’s no excuse for making customers wait! As Mr. Hansen preached to us early on, “Time, efficiency, and quality are always going to be of the utmost importance.” We work hard to make sure we are always improving on these fronts…so we take that challenge personally and we hope that you experience DLRC’s efforts on these pieces.
As for now, please enjoy this week’s Coins We Love!
Numismatically yours,
John Brush
