Coins We Love: The UNREAL Deal!

Coins We Love: The UNREAL Deal!

Wow! This week at DLRC feels a little overwhelming. In a good way, of course, but there’s a lot going on, so I’ll try to take you along on the ride that we’ve experienced so far.

Last week, we got a call regarding a large number of coins that have been accumulating for years. The customer asked if we’d be willing to come get them. Thankfully, the trip was relatively drivable, so we responded immediately and made the trip on Tuesday. We expected 2,000-3,000 coins of all types, though when we arrived and were guided to our workspace, we were a bit overwhelmed. It took a few hours to get everything packed up and ready to go, but our initial rough counts are now coming in around 7,000-8,000 coins, maybe more. Let’s suffice it to say that there wasn’t any room left once we got it all loaded up. But we made it back without issue, and now our vault is feeling the effects of the added weight and the overwhelming quantity of coins in the auction pipeline.

So, for those that are interested, the collection includes probably 700-800 world coins, thousands of type coins in affordable grades, lots of Morgan and Peace Dollars, a large group of commems, GSAs, and even some sample slabs. It’s a true smorgasbord of numismatic items. We’ll have these coins moving along and listed in auction with no reserve in just a few weeks! It was the largest deal (in quantity of coins) we’ve handled, but it was a really smooth experience, and we’re ready for the next one to come along! Thankfully, the biggest challenge on these deals is just logistics. The coins do the work themselves!

Other news in the office, we’re seeing coins from our recent purchasing extravaganzas make their way through the office. The photographs are done, videos have been tackled, and now we’re pricing, describing, and moving the coins onto the website and auctions. Auction activity has overall been fantastic in recent weeks, and the strength of the marketplace is still on display. The biggest challenge for most dealers, right now, is sourcing inventory. The less expensive items continue to leave the marketplace, but we’re lucky to have 47 years of history behind us, as coins that we’ve put away for decades continue to make their way back to us from their current caretakers. It’s exciting to see all of the activity and growth we’re experiencing. But our main goal is to continue to offer the service that DLRC is known for. We won’t lose that focus, but we’ll keep expanding it and having fun in the process!

Unfortunately, we won’t be attending the PCGS Invitational Show next week. We simply have too much going on in-house and elsewhere. Jack will be attending the upcoming PAN Show near Pittsburgh on foot, looking for new opportunities. Of course, if you have a consignment, he can help you with that as well. After that event, we just have the upcoming Baltimore Show on the major event schedule. But we’re mobile! We’ve got wheels (and wings are nearby), so if you have 8,000 slabs (or just 2 or 3!), let us know. Thanks for reading, and please enjoy this week’s Coins We Love!

Numismatically Yours,

John Brush
